Imagination Corner

Imagination Corner ensures a powerfully positive legacy in the hearts and minds of young people. Imagination Corner is the Junior League of Battle Creek Early Childhood Literacy project which successfully operated from 2003 to 2006.

The Project held in collaboration with children and their mothers residing at the Haven of Rest Ministries InAsMuch House, met their mission of “Fostering an environment of Learning”.

Specifically, this community impact project involved establishment of a children’s library appropriately titled “Imagination Corner”. Children’s developmental activities, a computer with educational software and books of all age appropriate genres and reading levels are included in the library selections. The Junior League of Battle Creek allocated and expended over $ 6,000 in establishing the Imagination Corner Library.

Additionally, Junior League members volunteered over 768 hours of direct volunteer hours reading to children and providing educational support with their homework. Junior League volunteers spent time with school aged children and their mothers developing children’s literacy and developmental opportunities. Response surveys from mothers and Junior League members reported great satisfaction with this valuable volunteer literacy time with children.

It is with great pleasure to have been of service to the community through this project. We thank InAsMuch House Executive Director Elaine Hunsicker, Manager Lisa Foley, and their staff for their work and commitment with this project. Thank you for allowing us to partner with your staff for this meaningful and positive endeavor.
