Early Childhood Literacy Project: Imagination Corner
Imagination Corner,
the Junior League's Early Childhood Literacy project, began in Fall
2003. We completed the second of a three year project in collaboration with Inasmuch
House in Battle Creek. League volunteers work with children at high
risk for school failure, facilitating a variety of engaging projects. Our
members volunteered their time on Tuesday evenings and Saturday
mornings for a total of over 160 hours this year.
"We had the most
amazing time!!!...We were painting, creating, playing games,
spelling, and it was so much fun! The tear jerker was the final game of
'Hang Man'. The phrase was 'This is fun, Thank you for coming!'. I hope
everyone gets a chance to reach out to the kids there. I feel the need
to go back to see these very same kids, but I want others to have the
chance too." - Linda, JLBC Member
